Does Unlv Require College Essay?
Does Unlv Require College Essay?Does Unlv require college essay? The answers to this question vary depending on the level of education that you have achieved. An English degree graduate will definitely need to write an essay and even then they may feel a bit out of their element, but this does not mean that they cannot write a good one. There are a few common things that are used in all essay writing which can greatly benefit people who do not have the best English degree to begin with.First off, you should think about the way in which you learned to write in your elementary school. If you were in a class that was based on spelling and grammar then this may have been your preference. However, if you went to a school that was based on word usage and delivery then you would want to be more creative with your writing. Your personality is what you bring to the classroom as a writer and this is something that is unique to each individual. There is nothing wrong with wanting to use your wr iting abilities to the fullest in your adult life.Well, maybe there is something wrong with that thought. Many writers prefer their writing to come across straight to the point where you have nothing more to say than the very first paragraph. People who like to get into the nitty gritty of a subject would prefer the written word to be as interesting as possible and so that is what you would do.Most college essays require some type of writing ability and it could be a requirement that you choose your topic for your essay around the material that you know best. If you know that you will be doing some research for your essay, you would find the quickest way to write it is to follow the material that you have chosen for it and build a foundation for it on that. This is why you must avoid using big words in your essay. This is not what someone would use to write their degree based on, unless they really do not know what to do with the piece. However, if you do know what to do with your es say, then there is no reason for you to use the big words that are used in high school or college and instead stick to the basics that are needed to make the point.Another thing that is commonly used in a student's essay is an introduction. This is the place where you should begin to set up the question that you will be answering in the body of the essay. This is the place where you should also start the outline that you will be writing to fit the opening of your essay. There is a rule of thumb that is also used in college essays that you should always remember when writing your first paragraph. This is known as the Rule of Three and this means that in any introductory paragraph you should have three ideas that you want to state and when you hit that third idea you have something to build on.For example, you may be asking a question about why Unlv requires college essay. You will want to make sure that you have one paragraph to tell the reader that this is why they are going to read your essay. You then add a paragraph explaining why they should listen to your argument and then you have a little extra information that you did not know was in your idea to begin with.
High School Reflective Essay
High School Reflective EssayA high school reflection essay is an essay that is written for a class or student. It is a way to let them know about their thoughts and opinions in the real world. They are similar to writing a grade essay but they do not have grades attached to them. These essays can be written by seniors as well as by freshmen. In order to write a high school reflection essay, students need to think outside of the box. The way to do this is to come up with an opinion on the topic at hand. Then write a little bit about how it affects you.It is the same idea in a college application essay, writing an essay in support of a point of view is a good way to go. It is a way to explain what a person thinks and why it is a point of view. With the diversity of education that is being provided to students, even though this can be hard for many students to handle, writing a reflection is something that should be considered as part of your course work. It is also a way to show what yo u believe in so the class can see that you have thought about the subject matter and have a well-rounded knowledge of the subject. Some people think that writing a high school reflection essay is difficult to do. In fact, it can be a lot easier than you think. There are plenty of resources out there to help you with your essay. Make sure that you are using the correct resources so that you do not end up plagiarizing or misusing someone else's work. There are even online resources that can help you, if you are not comfortable writing your own hand writing. A lot of times, students will borrow worksheets and typesetters to help them with their essays. There are lots of resources available online and in print for high school teachers. Even if you are a teacher, making use of these resources is a good way to make sure your students understand the essay topic. This is why it is important to know the rules and regulations on how to do it.One of the most common errors students make when writ ing a reflection is that they always start with what they are going to say. They include all of their personal thoughts and opinions. You should never do this because you want your reader to have a more thorough understanding of what you are going to talk about. Start with your thesis statement and then talk about what made you write. Sometimes students will create too much material and not even use the introduction or summary. If a student does not have enough time to sit down and write his or her own reflection, it is best to let the student's writing to be their guide. They may have an idea on how they want to put it all together. In this case, the student may provide a brief outline of their writing for the class. Be sure to answer all of the questions asked by the class so that you have a complete understanding of the topic. After the lesson, check your student's writing for accuracy.

Jeffrey Dahmer A Closer Look - 700 Words
Jeffrey Dahmer: A Closer Look Jeffrey Dahmer was responsible for a series of horrific murders of seventeen young men from 1988 until he was caught on July 22, 1991, in Milwaukee. This single individual grabbed the attention of the entire nation and brought to light the idea that no one in society should be trusted. Although Dahmer presented himself to be a normal yet quiet man, the horrendous details of this 23 year old case are enough to frighten and test the paranoia of many. Jeffrey Dahmer aided in destroying Americaââ¬â¢s trust in society through his unmerciful ways yet calming and seemingly normal demeanor. Jeffrey Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer (Crime Museum.org). According to aâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The majority of his victims were strangled. This Modus Operandi (techniques used to commit a crime) was the exact way that Dahmer destroyed Americaââ¬â¢s trust in society. The public was fooled by Dahmer and his demeanor. Although a little strange through his teen years, Dahmer seemed to be a normal American man from a small town with no intent to kill a soul. Just as Dahmerââ¬â¢s victims were tricked and lured by his quiet and calm mannerisms, so was America. When discussing Jeffrey Dahmer, one question comes to mind; ââ¬Å"What would cause a man to completely lose his mind in such a terrible way?â⬠According to Criminal-Psychology.net, Dahmers murders were based on fantasies. These fantasies were often about homosexual desires and sadistic needs to be in control of the victim. His methods of controlling the bodies of his victims included injecting boiling water and acid into their skulls, none of which worked but rather instantly killed them. Holding in these strong temptations is what may have pushed Dahmer off the edge and into a twisted life of sick, uncontrollable killings. What made Jeffrey Dahmer so different from any other serial killer? It wasnââ¬â¢t the amount of men murdered, nor the ways of luring the victims in. Account For An Increase In The Useful Life of a Fixed Asset.
Question: Discuss about Account For An Increase In The Useful Life of a Fixed Asset? Answer: If we see the graph of the effect of the change in the estimated life of an asset, we come to conclusion that if we increase the estimated life the earnings will increase but if we take shorter estimate of the life of the asset, the earnings will decrease. If we have to give effect to the above transactions then we have to pass the following journal entries: For increase in the estimated life of an asset: The company has to include is in the notes to account regarding the change in the estimated life of an asset. So, that the users of the financial statements come to know about the reason in the change in the value of the assets because when we change the estimated life of an asset it will definitely have affect value of the asset because change in the amount of depreciation has direct effect on the value of asset. b). If we change the estimated life of asset the we have to calculate the depreciation from the date of purchase of the asset as per revised estimate of life of asset and any difference DR or Cr has pass through profit Loss account. Journal Entry: Depreciation A/c___Dr To Profit Loss account A/c (If Less depreciation has come as per new estimate) Profit Loss account A/c ___Dr To Depreciation A/c (If more depreciation has come as per new estimate) C) (i) ii) Baasu and FASBs treatment are same as both have used the accounting principles to adapt the change which can be cleared by seeing that both have shown the effect of change in the estimated life of the asset in the profit of Loss account which is accepted as an accounting rule. So, the treatment of FASBs and Baasu is as per conservatism. Solution If the companys productive assets have a life longer than anticipated by the management (i.e., depreciation charges are overstated), I would, as an investor, view the investment favorably. Ceteris paribus, a longer asset life will make the investment more attractive because of higher profits in the future, on account of lower depreciation charges. In 2008 Delta Airlines increased the useful life of its flight equipment: depreciation expense decreased by approximately $127 million and net income increased by $69 million(How to account for an increase in the useful life of a fixed asset, 2016). The reverse will hold true if the asset life is shorter than anticipated, and would lead to lower profits due to an impairment loss written off immediately. This would lead to a downward pressure on the price of the investment. Since the immediate years profits will absorb all of the increase in depreciation because of the conservatism principle, the fall in price would be steeper than the rise in the case of good news (longer asset life). In a regression of annual earnings on returns, Basu finds that earnings respond more to negative returns (bad news) than positive returns (good news): earnings is about four and a half times as sensitive to negative returns as it is to positive returns. In the case of conditional conservatism, book values are written down under sufficiently adverse circumstances but not written up under favorable circumstances(William H Beaver, 2005). In case of a shorter asset life, the Basu treatment will entail writing off the shortfall in depreciation during one year itself, leading to a sharp drop in net income of that year. As Basus regression show, this is in line with how the stock market also treats bad news (discounts it in one year itself). On the contrary, the increase in asset life reflects in stock returns gradually. We suggest that since the purpose of depreciation is to set off an adequate reserve to replace the asset when it comes to the end of its useful life, a more regularly spread depreciation expense might also solve the purpose, without causing an unnecessary burden during any one year. The stock market, however, reacts differently. The more conservative treatment causes bias to seep in the representation of financial statements. Because of the principle of conservatism, net income for one year has to bear the entire impact of lower than anticipated asset life, while the future earnings remain unaffected. In the words of Basu, earnings reflect bad news more quickly than good news, hence a one-sided bias or asymmetric nature of loss recognition. The management can use its discretion and not impair assets if it feels that such a treatment will lead to assets being shown at less than fair value. For instance, the management might choose not to write off goodwill. Such treatment will practically undo the effects of conservative treatments on the books of accounts. However, the market is seen to act intelligently and assess the impact of the news independently. As (Roychowdhury, 2004) demonstrates, low market to book (MTB) firms that experience negative returns are more likely to record asset write-offs than high MTB firms. Managements ability to use discretion is both a good and a bad thing. It can be harmful to the interests of shareholders if the management is unscrupulous and uses its discretion to withhold negative information. In such cases, earnings will tend to be overstated in initial years as the management will have a tendency to push bad news later. For instance, management might be tempted to capitalize research development (RD) expenditure, even though there is no reliable measure of the future economic benefits of such costs. However, since SSAP13 requires that RD expenses be expenses rather than capitalized, this has arguably led to an under-investment in research because of markets fixation with earnings (J Peter Green, 1996). Thus, recent developments show that management has been given increased discretion (Sheldon Smith, 2013) in financial reporting, such as impairment of goodwill. Compared to the earlier method of amortizing goodwill compulsorily, the new method ensures that goodwill is shown at a fair and not unduly conservative value in the balance sheet. This reduces bias on the negative side arising due to conservatism. Bibliography How to account for an increase in the useful life of a fixed asset. (2016, March 5). 12 Angry Men Essays (1042 words) - Fiction, Film, Literature
12 Angry Men This essay will compare & contrast the protagonist/antagonist's relationship with each other and the other jurors in the play and in the movie versions of Reginald Rose's 12 Angry Men. There aren't any changes made to the key part of the story but yet the minor changes made in making the movie adaptation produce a different picture than what one imagines when reading the drama in the form of a play. First off, the settings in the movie are a great deal more fleshed out. In the play, the scene begins with the jurors regarding the judge's final statements concerning the case in the courtroom and then walking out into the jury room. In the movie, the audience is placed in the role of the invisible casual observer, who for perhaps the first 5 minutes of the movie, walks throughout the court building passing other court rooms, lawyers, defendants, security officers, elevators, etc. Not able to remember much about this particular part of the movie, I believe this introductory scene's purpose was to either enhanced the realism of the setting by emphasizing the court building's efficient, business like manner or to provide a timeslot in which to roll the credits for producer, director, stars, etc. The settings aren't only built upon through use of scenery and extras in the movie. Invisible and distant in the play, we see in the movie the judge, bailiff, those witnessing the trial and mo st importantly of all- the defendant. This is an important change because in the play, we are free to come up with our own unbiased conclusions as to the nature and identity of the defendant, whom we only know to a be a 19 year boy from the slums. Seeing his haggard and worn face in the movie changes all of that, yet for better or worse, it engages the audience deeper into the trial as they surely will sympathize with him and can gain some insight into why, later, Juror 8 does so as well. Of final note in this summary of points concerning the differences in setting, the jurors all mention the heat wave affecting the city when they begin, and as it agitates them, it serves to heighten the tension between each other and their resentment or other feelings towards jury duty. Oh- also lastly, I think we can infer that the movie takes place in Manhattan, New York City. Which jurors are from which boroughs is easily obvious and yet I'm hesitant to say that the defendant could be from any o f them- slums were persistent in those times. Concerning the characterization of the cast and their conflicts with each other, the movie holds true to the play's guidelines. For the most part, each character I saw in the movie matched up with the picture my mind's eye had painted whilst I was reading the play. One thing irked me however: all the jurors seemed at least 10 years older that I had imagined them. For instance, I had seen Juror 8- the protagonist of the play and Juror 3- his rival, the antagonist as being perhaps 30-ish or so and spirited and vibrant in their arguments. While somewhat vibrant they were, their age made them seem to come across as being more stubborn and grumpy (at least in, Juror 3's case) than lively. Even Juror 2- the meek, weak and timid-spoken one, I thought would be so because of the age disparity between him and the older (and thus, supposedly- wiser) jurors. Yet he is portrayed as such a man but balding and smoking a pipe. His voice, however, fit nicely to its role. The conflicts in the movie, w hile also being more fleshed out than in the play, did match up essentially but there was one point- I thing just before Juror 8 asks for the diagram of the apartment- that the movie's directors took the liberty to take dialogue from later in the play and put it there, greatly confusing me and hampering my ability to follow along. In analyzing the differences in the antagonist's and protagonist's relationship with each other and the other jurors, it too held to the play's guidelines with the various alliances

Ten Facts About Cells and Cell Function
Ten Facts About Cells and Cell Function Cells are the fundamental units of life. Whether they be unicellular or multicellular life forms, all living organisms are composed of and depend on cells to function normally. Scientists estimate that our bodies contain anywhere from 75 to 100 trillion cells. In addition, there are hundreds of different types of cells in the body. Cells do everything from providing structure and stability to providing energy and a means of reproduction for an organism. The following 10 facts about cells will provide you with well known and perhaps little known tidbits of information about cells. Cells are too Small to be Seen Without Magnification Cells range in size from 1 to 100 micrometers. The study of cells, also called cell biology, would not have been possible without the invention of the microscope. With the advance microscopes of today, such as the Scanning Electron Microscope and Transmission Electron Microscope, cell biologists are able to obtain detailed images of the smallest of cell structures. Primary Types of Cells Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells are the two main types of cells. Eukaryotic cells are called so because they have a true nucleus that is enclosed within a membrane. Animals, plants, fungi, and protists are examples of organisms that contain eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic organisms include bacteria and archaeans. The prokaryotic cell nucleus is not enclosed within a membrane. Prokaryotic Single-Celled Organisms were the Earliest and Most Primitive Forms of Life on Earth Prokaryotes can live in environments that would be deadly to most other organisms. These extremophiles are able to live and thrive in various extreme habitats. Archaeans for example, live in areas such as hydrothermal vents, hot springs, swamps, wetlands, and even animal intestines. There are More Bacterial Cells in the Body than Human Cells Scientists have estimated that about 95% of all the cells in the body are bacteria. The vast majority of these microbes can be found within the digetive tract. Billions of bacteria also live on the skin. Cells Contain Genetic Material Cells contain DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid), the genetic information necessary for directing cellular activities. DNA and RNA are molecules known as nucleic acids. In prokaryotic cells, the single bacterial DNA molecule is not separated from the rest of the cell but coiled up in a region of the cytoplasm called the nucleoid region. In eukaryotic cells, DNA molecules are located within the cells nucleus. DNA and proteins are the major components of chromosomes. Human cells contain 23 pairs of chromosomes (for a total of 46). There are 22 pairs of autosomes (non-sex chromosomes) and one pair of sex chromosomes. The X and Y sex chromosomes determine sex. Organelles Which Carry Out Specific Functions Organelles have a wide range of responsibilities within a cell that include everything from providing energy to producing hormones and enzymes. Eukaryotic cells contain several types of organelles, while prokaryotic cells contain a few organelles (ribosomes) and none that are bound by a membrane. There are also differences between the kinds of organelles found within different eukaryotic cell types. Plant cells for example, contain structures such as a cell wall and chloroplasts that are not found in animal cells. Other examples of organelles include: Nucleus - controls cell growth and reproduction.Mitochondria - provide energy for the cell.Endoplasmic Reticulum - synthesizes carbohydrates and lipids.Golgi Complex - manufactures, stores, and ships certain cellular products.Ribosomes - involved in protein synthesis.Lysosomes - digest cellular macromolecules. Reproduce Through Different Methods Most prokaryotic cells replicate by a process called binary fission. This is a type of cloning process in which two identical cells are derived from a single cell. Eukaryotic organisms are also capable of reproducing asexually through mitosis. In addition, some eukaryotes are capable of sexual reproduction. This involves the fusion of sex cells or gametes. Gametes are produced by a process called meiosis. Groups of Similar Cells Form Tissues Tissues are groups of cells with both a shared structure and function. Cells that make up animal tissues are sometimes woven together with extracellular fibers and are occasionally held together by a sticky substance that coats the cells. Different types of tissues can also be arranged together to form organs. Groups of organs can in turn form organ systems. Varying Life Spans Cells within the human body have different life spans based on the type and function of the cell. They can live anywhere from a few days to a year. Certain cells of the digestive tract live for only a few days, while some immune system cells can live for up to six weeks. Pancreatic cells can live for as long as a year. Cells Commit Suicide When a cell becomes damaged or undergoes some type of infection, it will self destruct by a process called apoptosis. Apoptosis works to ensure proper development and to keep the bodys natural process of mitosis in check. A cells inability to undergo apoptosis can result in the development of cancer.
